Tech research experts of the digital watchdog group Citizen Lab found spyware that was invaded by the newly discovered flaw in Apple devices. The Citizen Lab is now blaming Israeli firm NSO for the Spyware. Experts called it the NSO’s Pegasus Spyware Infection.
The US government has blacklisted the Israeli firm since 2021 for alleged abuses including spying and surveillance of government officials.
Citizen Lab found a flaw last week in the Apple device while inspecting an employee’s device who works at the Washington-based civil society group. The Citizen Lab confirmed this flaw makes NSO’s Pegasus spyware infect the device.
Senior researcher at Citizen Lab, John Scott-Railton said,
“This shows that civil society is once again serving as the early warning system about really sophisticated attacks”.
The flaw is only seen in the iPhone which is running version iOS 16.6. Later Apple rolled out new updates on all of their devices. Citizen Lab did not reveal any further details.
